Synopsis
The film is based on the true story of a British businessman named Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch) who, due to his frequent trips to Russia, was recruited as a spy during the Cold War by a CIA agent (Rachel Bosnahan).
Cumberbatch allies himself with a Soviet officer named Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) to provide crucial information that could help avoid a nuclear confrontation and consequently end the notorious Cuban Missile Crisis.
Greville Wynne was arrested by the KGB in 1962 and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment in Lubyanka. During those days, he struggled with various health problems until finally in 1964 he was released when the governments agreed to an exchange with Soviet spy Konon Molody.
